Peas

The pea is most commonly the small spherical seed or the seed-pod of the pod fruit Pisum sativum. Each pod contains several peas, which can be green or yellow. Botanically, pea pods are fruit, since they contain seeds and develop from the ovary of a flower. The name is also used to describe other edible seeds from the Fabaceae such as the pigeon pea, the cowpea, and the seeds from several species of Lathyrus.

On average, frozen peas retained 80% of the original vitamin C content and 90% of the thiamin content.

It is estimated that over 9000 peas are eaten per person, per year in Britain. 7175 peas were once eaten in a minute with chopsticks by Janet Harris of Sussex.
